Special needs parenting project: Help needed. Please respond by August 31, 2013.

Adoptive parents and professionals and Adoptive Council ­of Canada (ACC) urgently need your help: 

This survey follows up on a new study on parenting adopted children with certain special needs (including FASD). In this collaborator on a project, led by Dr. Alice Home (University of Ottawa), participants (parents, social workers, and associations) identified challenges, supports and unmet needs then community workshops suggested ways forward. While special needs include various important situations, Dr. Home’s study focused on parenting adopted children, aged 1-12, with a disability, medical condition, emotional/behavioural disorder &/or prenatal substance exposure. Some also have a difficult past history.

There is an urgent need for to hear from parents of children with those needs/risks, along with child welfare/adoption professionals and service providers who work with them. Completing the survey below will take 15-20 minutes for professionals and 20-30 minutes for parents. The survey is directed first to residents of Ontario and BC but those living elsewhere can also respond.
